Analyze a circuit

Play a lap in the 3D circuit viewer, follow the car, choose a display vehicle, and color the track by telemetry channel.

The circuit viewer replays the uploaded lap on a 3D model of the track. Use it to check that a new circuit looks right, to study where the car brakes and accelerates, and to explain a track to team members who have not driven it.

Open Circuits from the sidebar and select a circuit row. On desktop the page shows the 3D map on the left and the Telemetry charts on the right. Drag the divider to resize them. On small screens the page uses Map and Data tabs. The playback controls at the bottom are shared by both views.

If a circuit only has slim track data, the page shows a static 2D outline with the start and finish line instead. You can zoom and pan the outline, but playback, channels, and the vehicle model are not available.

Before you start

  • Select the correct team.
  • Open a circuit that was created with a full telemetry file. See Create a circuit.
  • Wait for the loading steps Downloading telemetry, Decompressing telemetry, and Reading telemetry to finish. Large circuits can take a few seconds.

Read the 3D map

  • The track is drawn as an asphalt ribbon. Elevation comes from the GPS altitude column and is exaggerated so height changes are easy to see. Banking tilts the ribbon.
  • A checkered strip marks the start and finish line at distance 0.
  • A line along the track center is colored by the selected channel. The legend under the map shows the channel, the current value, and the color range. For channels that can be negative, such as lateral acceleration or steering, the legend shows Neutral = 0 and the colors diverge from grey.
  • The map is rotated by the start angle that was set during upload.
  • Turn on Flat to remove height and banking from the map. The telemetry charts are not affected.

Play the lap and follow the car

  1. Click the map or a chart so the viewer has focus.
  2. Select Play. The car drives the lap in real time from the current position. Select Pause to stop.
  3. Choose a playback speed of 1x, 2x, or 5x.
  4. Select Follow to move the camera behind the car. Select Overview to return to the free camera.
  5. Select Lock to hold the current position while you read values. Playing again releases the lock.
  6. Drag the position slider to jump to any distance along the lap.

The readout at the right of the control bar shows the lap time since the first sample and the current distance in meters. Playback stops when the car reaches the finish line. Select Play again to restart from the start line. Playback pauses automatically when the browser tab is hidden.

Choose a display vehicle

Use the Display vehicle selector in the top-left corner of the map to change the 3D car model.

The vehicle selector changes only the displayed model. It does not change the circuit or any simulation. The car is animated from the uploaded telemetry: steering angle turns the wheel and front hubs, throttle and brake pressure move the pedals, and distance spins the wheels. Each model has its own follow-camera distance, so Follow frames a go kart closer than a GT car.

Select the track color channel

Use the Track colour channel selector in the top-left corner of the map to choose which channel colors the track line. The matching chart lane is highlighted. Speed is selected by default.

Only channels that exist in the uploaded circuit file are offered.

Read the telemetry charts

The Telemetry panel plots every recorded channel as a stacked lane. Each lane header shows the channel name, its unit, and the value at the cursor.

  • The horizontal axis is distance along the lap. Time is shown only in the readout.
  • One cursor is shared by the map, the charts, the readout, and the position slider. Hovering a chart moves the car. Hovering the track moves the chart cursors.
  • Hover a chart to preview a position. Click to lock it.
  • Drag a box across a chart to zoom the distance range. Double-click to reset it. All lanes zoom together.

View circuit details

Select the information button in the top-right corner of the map to open the details sheet. It shows the circuit picture, name, short name, notes, Track length, Average lap, Created by, and Created at. The sheet also contains a Using the viewer section with the controls and shortcuts from this page.

Average lap is an estimate calculated from the track length when the circuit is created.

Delete a circuit

Circuits cannot be edited after upload. To change the start angle or the data, delete the circuit and upload the file again.

  1. Open Circuits.
  2. Open the row menu for the circuit, or select several rows and use the action bar.
  3. Select Delete and confirm.

Deleting requires module delete permission.

Troubleshooting
